Locally owned. Automotive-focused. Serving Knoxville since 1994.

Knox Car Keys is a family-operated mobile automotive locksmith business built on three decades of honest work and hands-on expertise.

How Knox Car Keys got started

In 1994, Wallace “Wally” Mink started unlocking cars in Knoxville to make extra money. Within a year, he took over an existing automotive locksmith business - and never looked back.

What started as a side job turned into a career and eventually a family business. Over 30 years later, Knox Car Keys is still locally owned and operated by the Mink family, still serving the Knoxville area, and still focused on one thing: automotive keys and ignitions.

A lot has changed in three decades. Car keys went from simple metal blades to transponder chips, fobik systems, and proximity-based smart keys. The technology evolves constantly, and keeping up with it requires ongoing training, specialized equipment, and a real investment in staying current.

Knox Car Keys has made that investment every step of the way. From the early days of basic key cutting to today's computerized programming and diagnostics, we've kept pace with the industry because our customers depend on it.

What sets us apart

We're not a franchise

Knox Car Keys isn't part of a national chain. There's no corporate headquarters, no call center, no rotating roster of contractors. When you call us, you're working with the same local team that's been doing this for over 30 years.

We're not a 24/7 locksmith

You've probably seen the ads - "24/7 locksmith, call now." Many of those operations are lead generation services that route your call to whoever's available in the area. There's no guarantee of quality, experience, or fair pricing. That's not how we operate.

We only do automotive

No residential locks. No commercial security systems. Automotive keys and ignitions are all we do, and we put everything into doing it well. The training, the tools, the parts inventory - it's all focused on vehicles.

We invest in the right equipment

Modern car keys require professional-grade diagnostic and programming tools. We carry the same caliber of equipment used by dealerships because cutting corners on technology means cutting corners on the work.

We're honest about pricing

Every job starts with a phone conversation. We learn about your vehicle and your situation, put together a quote, and get your approval before we schedule anything. The price we quote is the price you pay.

Real people, real accountability

Knox Car Keys is a small, family-run business - and that's by design. When you call, you talk to a real person through our answering service. A technician calls you back to understand your situation and walk you through what's needed. There's no automated phone tree, no "press 1 for this, press 2 for that."

We treat every call like it matters because it does. Whether you're stranded without a key or just want a spare made before it becomes a problem, you're going to work with someone who's done this thousands of times and takes the time to do it right.

That's the advantage of working with a local business. We live here. We work here. And our reputation is built one job at a time.

Need a key programmed? We'll come to you.
